Cloudless is a novel that lends itself to exegesis, but as verse it suffers from a lack of compression, and therefore power; the narration too often reads as lineated prose, as shown above. There are instances of clumsy expression that should have been corrected prior to publication. For example, '(i)nstead of doing maths / they watched the moon landing on the telly.' One wonders how Cloudless would translate to theatre, for which it would be wound back and tightened?
